A Promise That Stands the Test of Time

GodWithMe

I went to a conference this past weekend and was reminded of many promises that God has given to each one of us. One especially stuck out to me that I would love to share with you today.

I listened to Norm Wakefield speak about the book of Hebrews. Since I have been studying Hebrews 11 and 12, of course I was eating up any new insight I could gain! He started off with Hebrews 1:1-2.

Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe. Hebrews 1:1-2

After reading this passage, Norm asked a really good question. “Well, what did God speak to our ancestors and to us?” After many long hours studying trying to figure out what was it that God spoke to the prophets of old and to us, he finally found his answer at the end of Hebrews.

For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” Hebrews 13:5

It goes on to remind us in Hebrews 13:8 that, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.”

The same God that Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David, Haggai and Isaiah served is the same God that I serve today. God gave them the same promise that He has given me:   He will never leave me!

He will NEVER leave me!!

HE WILL NEVER LEAVE ME!!!

What an amazing promise that we can hold onto!  It is a promise for me and for you! God does not have favorites and He willingly gives this promise to each and every one of us. He is consistent and will do it for anyone who will accept it.  Need proof?  Here, let me show you 18 examples….

God is speaking to Abraham: Genesis 17:7-8 “I will confirm my covenant with you and your descendants after you, from generation to generation. This is the everlasting covenant: I will always be your God and the God of your descendants after you. And I will give the entire land of Canaan, where you now live as a foreigner, to you and your descendants. It will be their possession forever, and I will be their God.”

God is speaking to Isaac: Genesis 26:2-5 The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt, but do as I tell you. Live here as a foreigner in this land, and I will be with you and bless you. I hereby confirm that I will give all these lands to you and your descendants, just as I solemnly promised Abraham, your father. I will cause your descendants to become as numerous as the stars of the sky, and I will give them all these lands. And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed. I will do this because Abraham listened to me and obeyed all my requirements, commands, decrees, and instructions.”

God is speaking to Jacob: Genesis 28:15 (NLT) What’s more, I am with you, and I will protect you wherever you go. One day I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have finished giving you everything I have promised you.” And in Genesis 31:3 (NLT) Then the Lord said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your father and grandfather and to your relatives there, and I will be with you.”

God is speaking to Moses: Exodus 3:12 (NLT) God answered, “I will be with you. And this is your sign that I am the one who has sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God at this very mountain.”

Moses is speaking to the Israelites: Deuteronomy 31:6 (NLT) So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

Moses is speaking to Joshua: Deuteronomy 31:8 (NLT) Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

God is speaking to Joshua: Joshua 1:5(NLT)No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you.

God is speaking to Gideon: Judges 6:16 The Lord said to him, “I will be with you. And you will destroy the Midianites as if you were fighting against one man.”

God is speaking to David: 1 Samuel 18:4 David continued to succeed in everything he did, for the Lord was with him. And in 2 Samuel 7:8-9 “Now go and say to my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies has declared: I took you from tending sheep in the pasture and selected you to be the leader of my people Israel. I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have destroyed all your enemies before your eyes. Now I will make your name as famous as anyone who has ever lived on the earth!

David is speaking to Solomon: 1 Chronicles 28:20 (NLT) Then David continued, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Don’t be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. He will see to it that all the work related to the Temple of the Lord is finished correctly.

God is speaking to Isaiah: Isaiah 41:10 Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. And in Isaiah 43:1-2 But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.

God is speaking to Ezekiel: Ezekiel 36:26-28 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. Then you will live in the land I gave your ancestors; you will be my people, and I will be your God.

God is speaking to Hosea: Hosea 2:19-20 “I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and in justice, In loving kindness and in compassion, And I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness. Then you will know the Lord.

God is speaking to Joel: Joel 2:27-29 “Thus you will know that I am in the midst of Israel, And that I am the Lord your God, And there is no other; And My people will never be put to shame. “It will come about after this That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and daughters will prophesy, Your old men will dream dreams, Your young men will see visions. “Even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.

God is speaking to Amos: Joel 2:27-29 Do what is good and run from evil so that you may live! Then the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies will be your helper, just as you have claimed. Hate evil and love what is good; turn your courts into true halls of justice. Perhaps even yet the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies will have mercy on the remnant of his people.

God is speaking to Haggai: Haggai 1:13 Then Haggai, the Lord’s messenger, gave the people this message from the Lord: “I am with you, says the Lord!”

Then God gave all mankind the promise in Isaiah:  Isaiah 7:14(NLT) All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin[a] will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).

Jesus gave us this promise before He left earth: John 14:16 (NLT) And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you.

Do you believe that God will never leave you? That is His main message, from Adam to us, and He wants you to know it more deeply that you know anything else.
