The third candle reminds us of the “gift of freedom.” I am so thankful that through Christ we can be free from the bondage of sin. I am thankful that we live in a country that we can still worship how we like and serve God. For some the third week of Advent is the “gift of joy.” We can be joyful for the freedom that we have been given.
Here are some other verses that remind us of this precious gift.
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see,
that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.
Luke 4: 18-19 (NIV)
Through you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. 1 Peter 1:8 (NIV)
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1 (NIV)
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36 (NIV)
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplatethe Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 (NIV)
