What does it look like??

My wife is a pharmacist by training and a nerd at heart.  This can be irritating at times, since I prefer to go with the flow, but holy cow, it really pays off!  She keeps us on the right track and is able to create order in the chaos.  (That’s an attribute of God, by the way.)  Between friends and Pinterest she has picked up some incredible tips for being good stewards of your stuff.

The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty. Proverbs 21:5 (NIV)

Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor. Proverbs 12:24 (NIV)

My husband is sweet and yes I am proudly a nerd at heart! To live a life of purpose you do have to have organization in your life to do it well and actually get it accomplished. The perfectionist in me has had many mild heart attacks as I try to figure out how to keep all of my “balls” up in the air and to the level that I want them. I think I am finally settling down and keeping the proper perspective on what it truly important.

I will warn you that living a life of purpose can leave your house looking like this……

Messy Room 1

And this….

Messy Room 2

(Now to be completely honest, this isn’t as bad as it gets. Our house can get a lot messier but I just couldn’t post a picture of that… yet 🙂

That being said this doesn’t give you full rein to just let it all go in the name of “living the higher calling” but you do have to have a healthy perspective on what is doable and what is unrealistic. I have four kids under the age of 8 and that means I will not always have everything picked up, I will always have dirty dishes and there will always be laundry to do. This drives me crazy at times. Can’t I just wish for one hour that everything has a place and is actually in it?

My husband has had to gently remind me that his desire for our family is to have his needs met (aka intimacy), happy (not exasperated) kids and doing what God has called us to do. It is not having a sparkling house, everything in its place and me being crabby and tired because I am constantly cleaning.

On the flip side it is not good to live in craziness and mess. Throughout the year I will be giving you little tips and tricks that I have learned to have my cake and eat it too. How to live a life on purpose, keep the house in order and maintain a happy environment in our household. I also look forward to learning more tricks from you!
